The Konawaena boys and Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i girls represented the Big Island in the Hawaii High School Athletic Association (HHSAA) Bowling Championships on Thursday and Friday at the Schofield Bowling Center on Oahu.
In the boys competition, Konawaena placed 10th overall, posting a 5,091 cumulative score across eight games. Hawaii Baptist won the entire outing, tallying a 7,111 score.
On the girls side, KSH placed eighth with a 4,945 score. Pearl City took home the state title with a collective 6,579 score.
In the final set of games, senior Kelson Omori led the Wildcats in the boys competition with a score of 428 across three games for 75th place overall — knocking down 1,141 total pins across the event. Teammates Marquis Fonoimoana (1,053), CJ Felipe (1,022), Noa Clark Lorenzo (1,014), Aidan Clark (substitute, 444) and Shawn Maghanoy (417) additionally represented Konawaena at state.
Senior Emily Hora led the Warriors girls by placing 28th overall, knocking down 422 pins in the final round to add to her collective score of 1,159. Hora’s teammates — Kaohinani Christiansen (983), Olivia Kinoshita (973), Jaydence Fernandez-Young (933), Kealohi Ili (919), Kailee Wagner (897) and Alyssa Solomon-Hoopai (substitute) — all joined her on Oahu.
